KYOKUSHIN KARATE

POWERFUL, PROVEN, TRADITIONAL

WHAT KIND OF KARATE IS IT?

Kyokushin Karate, founded by Masutatsu Oyama, is a martial art renowned for its rigorous training, strict discipline, and full-contact fighting style. Originating in the 1950s, Kyokushin emphasizes endurance, strength, and direct techniques. Masutatsu Oyama, often referred to as Mas Oyama, developed this style to combine the spiritual aspects of martial arts with practical self-defense capabilities, showcasing the effectiveness of its striking power in real combat situations. Kyokushin’s philosophy of self-improvement and resilience pushes practitioners to their physical and mental limits, embodying the idea of finding “the ultimate truth” through martial arts training.

The style’s fierce training regimen and its emphasis on full-contact sparring have made it a foundational influence on many successful fighters in various combat sports. Notable MMA fighters like Georges St. Pierre and Bas Rutten have incorporated Kyokushin Karate into their diverse skill sets, attributing their striking prowess and mental toughness to their training in this discipline. In the world of kickboxing, legends such as Francisco Filho and Andy Hug rose to prominence with backgrounds in Kyokushin, known for their powerful techniques and the ability to absorb and deliver devastating blows.

Today, Kyokushin continues to be revered for its effective and modern application in combat sports, with its techniques proving both powerful and practical in professional settings. The art’s emphasis on real-world effectiveness, combined with a philosophy that champions continuous improvement and the overcoming of personal limits, ensures that Kyokushin Karate remains a vital part of the martial arts landscape, inspiring a new generation of fighters and practitioners around the globe.
